Two weeks in japan | Harajuku

Harajuku, the district of the fashion for the trendy youth of Tokyo

Harajuku, literaly inn in the meadow, is the name given to the district around the station Harajuku. It is internationally known as being the center of the trendy fashion of Tokyo.

We reach it very easily in subway, the closest station is the station Harajuku on the network JR East (line Yamanote).

The fashion of Harajuku is spread all over the world thanks to magazines such as Kera, Gothic Lolita Bible and Fruits. There are mainly two business streets, Takeshita Street and Omotesando.

Takeshita street is the place of the fashion Gothic Lolita and likened and cosplay. Omotesando is now occupied by the shops of the very big internationnales brands, Prada, Louis Vuitton, Chanel etc.... We often compare it with Champs Elysees in Paris.

On the West of the district, cross the railway, is the park Yoyogikamizonocho which shelters a famous Shintoist temple, Meiji Jingü. It is a place for walking appreciated of Japanese to make a break away from the excitement of the city.

Every Sunday morning, young people gather in front of the entrance of the park to show them more beautiful dresses (Gothic Lolita, Punk, Cosplay).

Harajuku-Subway

To go in the district Harajuku, the best is to take the subway. For our first journey in subway, we needed a moment to manage to understand how's to use it. Fortunately, we find by looking for many map with some words in English and thanks to Japaneses who are always ready to help the lost tourists.

Harajuku-Takeshita street

It is the main street of the district Harajuku, it is there that gets dressed the trendy youth of Tokyo, we shall go of surprise in surprise. All the styles are possible, of the pupil in pleated skirt to the mini skirt and basque.

Harajuku-Takenoko

When I say that all the styles are possible; the most amazing is that we cross in the street as well young people dressed like that as people in traditional costume.

Harajuku-And even for dogs

Eh, yes it is also necessary to relook the dog, a whole store for that!!! It is not to us that we would see that.

Harajuku-Harajuku girl

Here is a typical example of the type of dress that we see in this district. The research at the level of the look is pushed, and it is very trendy to have a suitcase as handbag.

Harajuku-Yoyogikamizonocho park

Just a step from the street Takeshita is the park Yoyogikamizonocho. It is the total contrast between this very full of life street and this very quiet park, we shall often find this type of contrast. This country lives in between 21th century and the Middle Ages; and it is surprising but very pleasant.

Harajuku-Meiji Jingu sanctuary

In the park Yoyogikamizonocho we find the sanctuary Meiji Jingu, where of numerous Japanese come to pray shielded from the excitement of the city.

Harajuku-Omotesando street

This time we joined street Omotesando, this street is considered as the Champs Elysees of Tokyo. We find shops of quite other genre with the biggest creators of fashion there. Here it is the building Prada which by its architecture is worth seeing.
